"Over the years I’ve had the privilege to use the best of the best microphones ever made. My rental bill was astronomical. I just got and tried the Slate Digital VMS ML-1. I blind tested it against some of Nashville’s finest stock. I couldn’t tell a difference. I’m sold. Thank you Steven and the entire Slate crew, you just cut my rental bill to $0.00."

With its fast transient response, the Blackbird 47 gives vocals and instruments a gorgeous, round tone that’s full of presence and detail with zero harshness. Because it offers a balanced response at all sound pressure levels, the 47 is in demand by a wide variety of musicians—from vocalists to drummers & more. See why George Massenburg, inventor of the parametric EQ, called the Blackbird mic “the finest 47 I’ve ever heard.
The most unique, most beloved mic in the entire VMS collection. This famed microphone, serial number 584, is the one mic Blackbird clients were never allowed to use. Why? Because it was specially reserved for owner John McBride’s wife, legendary country singer Martina McBride. See why singers like John Legend and Demi Lovato consider this one their go-to microphone for thick, creamy vocals.
The Blackbird 12 boasts smoother highs and flatter lows than the original classic tube microphone and, in many reviewers’ estimations, is worth the price of the entire collection. With stunning, open high end, detailed mids, and dramatic lows, this microphone will be your best friend when you need a vocal to sit perfectly in your mix.
This mic moves in a completely different league from other 67s. By delivering a slightly darker, thicker sound, the 67 has been a favorite of artists from The Beatles to Frank Sinatra. Its ultra-smooth top end subtle tube shimmer helped this microphone define the 1960s. A unique character makes it stand apart from every other microphone in the Blackbird Collection.
The original 49 was built specifically for vocalists. The Blackbird 49 goes far beyond by giving you more air, depth, and a dark presence in the lows that gives vocals a rich smoothness. Considered by many recording engineers to be the finest mic they’ve ever used, the Blackbird 49 gives vocals and instruments alike a warm, full tonality.

We begin with one of the most exciting & requested additions to the Virtual Mic System—a classic ribbon microphone. Based on an iconic mic introduced in 1933, we took the original and made a couple of important enhancements. First, we put it in cardiod form. Next, we add a custom tube stage to give this legendary microphone some tube harmonics & a touch of saturation. If you’re looking for a classic, super-smooth vintage sound, you’ve got to check out this mic.
This recreation of a famous vintage Japanese tube microphone is one of the standout models in the entire collection. The midrange is carefully sculpted to bring out the best in every vocal style. The FG-37A is so flattering on so many vocal styles that engineers have told us it’s the mic they reach for when they want to capture the performance in one take.
Named after the classic German tube mic released in 1949, the FG-49 has an incredibly dominant and rich midrange, along with a subtle airy, smooth top end. This mic has been heard on countless recordings, and while it is beloved by singers in every music genre, we think it really shines when used for drum rooms, kick, piano, and horns.
While our Classic Tubes collection already includes a standard 47, one listen & we knew we had to model this one. The FG-47 MK II gives you a slightly smoother upper midrange and top, along with a warm, fatter low mid. You get amazing warmth & smoothness that’s not only perfect for vintage vocal sounds, but also kick drum & bass cabinets.
Unlike the stock 67 included in the Classic Tubes collection, the FG-67 MK II adds a gorgeous touch of darkness on the top end. You still get a ton of midrange detail, but with the addition of some beautiful, lush lows. This mic sounds great on many sources, including vocals, drum rooms, piano, horns, and just about anything that needs a vintage tone.
