The essence of the Eiosis AirEQ within the VMR!
“The Air band sounds incredible: silky, sweet and flattering…the Earth band can enhance the bass very effectively, making it sound full and credible, as opposed to boomy or muddy.”
Guess what? It’s free in the EVERYTHING BUNDLE.
Air & Earth EQ
The Eiosis AirEQ is one of the most highly-regarded plugin equalizers in the audio industry, and the Air & Earth modules bring the heart of the musicality of that EQ into the Virtual Mix Rack.
In addition to the actual Air and Earth filters themselves, both modules feature resonant filters (HiCut for the Air and LoCut for the Earth), with slopes from 6dB to 36dB/oct.
Air is a new type of filter that helps restore or add brightness to source material while remaining natural-sounding. It does this by allowing you to gently add high frequencies without adding harshness or unpleasant digital artifacts.
Air’s smoothness allows you to shape the high frequency response of sounds in a very natural way: it can help bring an instrument to the front of a mix, add a subtle brilliance to sounds, or to make a vocal track breathe, simply by increasing Air.
The HiCut attenuates frequencies above the cutoff frequency. It achieves this cut in a unique way, as the Air’s HiCut filter is perfectly matched to an analog filter curve (unlike many digital EQs). This analog filter shape plays a major role in keeping the high frequency roll-off sounding natural.
The HiCut Slope goes from 6dB/oct to 36dB/oct, a wide range suitable for both surgical and gentle cuts, and the Q knob allows for musical adjustment of the resonance.
The HiCut and the Air can be used in combination as well: boosting the Air opens up the response, while cutting the ultra highs with the HiCut can be useful in taming potential harshness without losing the sense of openness.
Earth was inspired by real transformer behavior, and brings deep and solid sub-lows. You can think about using the Earth module as an “adjustable transformer”, controlling all of that character with just one knob. The result is always a tight and precise bass sound, without being muddy or boomy.
Being fully linear in amplitude, Earth’s phase is very specific: it’s flatter than a regular filter, especially on its maximum setting. You can use Earth to quickly add some consistent sub-lows to tracks like kick drums and bass, but it can also be useful in many other situations like sound effects, or any time you need to make a track deeper or more powerful.
The LowCut attenuates frequencies below the cutoff frequency. With its adjustable resonance and slopes ranging from 6dB/oct to 36dB/oct, it’s useful in many situations – from gentle sub removal to drastic kick enhancements at the highest resonance setting.
Using the Earth at its max setting, the LoCut can be useful to tame the bass response in much the same way that passive EQ boost/cut controls do on some vintage devices.
